Once again, greater Rochester will host the New York State Special Olympics Winter Games, staring Friday, February 22 and concluding Sunday, February 24. Competitions and celebrations will be held at various venues in the region: Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the Olympic Village at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, floor hockey at the Convention Center, cross country skiing at Bristol Mountain, figure skating at Genesee Valley Ice rink, and alpine skiing and snowshoeing at Swain Ski Center.
In 2012, over 1000 volunteers assisted and supported the athletes, including many NYSUT members and students. Once again, you and your members are invited to volunteer at any of the venues. Some school personnel extend this invitation to their students to help meet a community service requirement.
Attached you will find the 2013 Rochester State Winter Games volunteer application and a poster for you to distribute to others you know, hang in break rooms, window fronts or etc. Simply fill out the application completely and fax or mail it to the Special Olympics NY headquarters office. Please make sure you include your email address as you will receive an email verifying your registration. E – Mail addresses must be included to be considered. Volunteers will receive their assignments during the 2nd week in February.
